Central Election Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan holds a session on February 6, 2018

The Central Election Commission (CEC) conducted a session chaired by Mr. Mazahir Panahov on February 6, 2018. Firstly, CEC Chairman made the Commission members familiar with the Order by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the declaration of the early Presidential elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Later, the issue on the appointment of the early Presidential elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan was considered and by the Commission decision, the elections were appointed to April 11, 2018.

At the session the Calendar Plan for the basic activities and measures on the preparation and conduct of the early Presidential elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan was approved to implement the activities implied by the election legislation subsequently and effectively, to render the election stakeholders methodical assistance and to simplify their functioning in the election process.

The issue on the establishment of the Expert Group under the Central Election Commission to investigate the complaints against the actions (inactions) and decisions on the violation of the election right and to guarantee citizens’ election rights was also considered at the Commission session. By the decision of the Commission, an Expert Group of 9 persons was established under CEC. The Constituency Election Commissions (Con.ECs) were commissioned with establishing Expert Groups of 3 persons under the commissions no later than the period defined by the legislation.

During the session a Working Group consisting of the specialists of the relevant state bodies was established and a Commission member was appointed the head of the Group to check the accuracy of the information included in signature sheets and the documents attached to them, submitted to register a candidate in the early Presidential elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Current issues were also considered at the session attended by the representatives of international organisations, diplomatic missions of foreign countries and foreign mass media.
